Biobased building

Steel and concrete are very expensive materials when you consider their environmental impact. And Werkstatt treats them as such. Ideally, the agency would like to construct buildings entirely of bio-based materials such as wood and lime hemp. But where that is not (yet) possible, Werkstatt designs the 'bulk' of the building in biobased materials, and the less sustainable materials are only used where there is no other option. After a few private homes, the office works on increasingly larger projects. For a CPO it is designing an ensemble of houses and for a housing cooperative it is designing a stacked residential building. Werkstatt continued to focus on building in wood and had chalk hemp prefabricated for a larger project.
