Robert Patzschke & Rudolf Spindler - 800x800px.jpg

Robert Patzschke, Patzschke & Partner Architects / Rudolf Spindler, Editor-in-Chief, Wasmuth Publishing House

The transformation of the former A104 urban motorway - a relic of what is now widely regarded as the misguided concept of the car-oriented city - encompasses nearly all of the key and often controversial issues involved in urban transformation. Moreover, it concerns both urban development and transport authorities, as well as the districts of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Steglitz-Zehlendorf alike.

The urban design proposals developed by Robert Patzschke serve as exemplary studies, offering inspiration for how these currently mono-functional spaces can be reintegrated into the urban fabric and returned to the city.

In the discussion following the presentation, Rudolf Spindler and Robert Patzschke will explore the opportunities, possibilities, and challenges of transformation projects such as the adaptive reuse of infrastructure inherited from the era of the car-oriented city.

This lecture and the subsequent conversation are presented in cooperation with the AIV Berlin-Brandenburg (Architects and Engineers Association of Berlin-Brandenburg).
