Yakisugi, also known as Shou Sugi Ban, is an ancient Japanese technique that involves charring the surface of cedar (Sugi) to create a thin natural carbonized layer. This process enhances the wood’s resistance to weather, insects, and fire while revealing a deep and refined texture unique to each board. The carbonized layer acts as a natural protective barrier, formed only by fire. Over time, it develops a distinctive patina that enriches the material and gives the building a warm, living presence. Yakisugi is a sustainable and natural material, ideal for façades and interior wall cladding. It brings warmth, authenticity, and depth to contemporary architecture, blending Japanese tradition with modern design. Made from sustainably managed Japanese cedar forests and crafted by skilled artisans, this noble wood stores carbon and contributes to environmental preservation through responsible forestry practices.
