Split Kit

A majority of Flanders’ growing housing needs can be met without new construction or new land: by dividing large houses into smaller dwellings that better fit today’s demographics. Splitting houses has long been an everyday process in cities, but it is an invisible process: rarely publicised and rarely discussed as a sustainable strategy. The VLAIO living lab ‘Split Kit’ makes visible the opportunity, through architectural best practices, technical guidelines, policy advice, and business models.
