We often think about architecture in terms of places where we work, eat and relax but some of the best innovations are to be found in the buildings and spaces that harness our love of sport and exercise. This desire for physical activity now covers a huge range of different approaches, ranging from the recent Olympics to climbing centres in skyscrapers and running tracks that weave through new developments. As advances in digital technologies encourage us to be more sedentary, what can design do to help us get out of our chairs and breathe a little harder?
