A@W Brussels 2026
BRO Service introduces a standards-driven design approach to bicycle parking, in which regulations, user comfort and functional requirements are integrated from the very first design stage into the architecture. Rather than checking standards and guidelines retrospectively, these minimum requirements are actively translated into design parameters that guide the spatial layout. This includes consideration of centre-to-centre distances, circulation space, accessibility, and the required proportional distribution between standard, double-tier and oversized bicycle parking spaces, in accordance with applicable guidelines, unless explicitly agreed otherwise (for example, local regulations such as those of the City of Ghent). These parameters result in logically organised, correctly dimensioned and architecturally integrated bicycle parking solutions, where functional requirements and spatial quality go hand in hand. The approach is applicable to various types of bicycle parking, including open systems, collective storage facilities and individual bike lockers. Smart access systems and charging facilities are not treated as mere technical add-ons, but as spatial components that influence positioning, circulation, ease of use and management. The result is a design process that ensures design reliability, prevents errors and rework during the construction phase, while maintaining maximum architectural freedom. Bicycle parking thus evolves from a technical constraint into a fully-fledged, high-quality component of both the building and the public realm.
