DURAT: Colorful and special

In architecture, interior design, space planning, and furniture design, sustainability has become the most important key topic. Both architects and consumers place a positive ecological footprint at the top of their priority list. Spahn Holzwerkstoffe, a panel manufacturer, proves that products made sustainably and from recycled materials do not have to be dull and gray.
With Durat, the company offers a polyester-based solid surface material developed in Finland, consisting of approximately 30 percent recycled plastic (acrylic) and being 100 percent recyclable itself. The granulated plastic waste used in its production, sourced from the industry, gives the panels their distinctive texture.
The extraordinary is always an option for architects and interior designers in search of unique layouts and design solutions. This is where Spahn’s product, the Durat panel, comes into play: it enables precisely these extraordinary projects to be realized. Suitable for all areas of living—whether in the kitchen, bathroom, or as a furniture variation in any other room—it creates a distinctive and striking look. Additionally, it is wear-resistant, easy to maintain, and meets the demand for an environmentally friendly solution.
The standard size of a Durat panel is 2900 x 800 x 12 millimeters. The base material can either be cast as a panel or shaped into a sink, for example, using a special molding technique. The sheet can be cast in thicknesses ranging from 9 to 18 millimeters.

The Durat panels stand out for their unique qualities. On one hand, they feature a warm, silky surface that is designed for longevity and easy maintenance—fully aligned with sustainability principles. On the other hand, they meet the high hygiene standards required in restaurants, medical facilities such as doctor’s offices, schools, daycare centers, and public spaces.
Thanks to their homogeneous surface, which is seamlessly bonded and can be refreshed with light sanding, Durat panels are food-safe and easy to clean. These exceptional panels are widely used in furniture design, including in hotels and restaurants, for kitchen countertops, sinks, and pool steps—making them a popular choice for wellness and spa facilities as well.
