On March 31, 2026, the tallest skyscraper in Paris will be closed to the public. It will take five years before access is possible again. The transformation promises to be spectacular. The renovation works are of major scale: the Montparnasse Tower is set to undergo a complete transformation that will give it a new appearance.

The restructuring will be carried out by the Nouvelle AOM collective (Franklin Azzi, Chartier Dalix, Hardel Le Bihan Architectes). The metamorphosis includes, among other things, the installation of a luxury hotel within the building, as well as a wide range of shops and various services. The project also предусматриes the creation of an agricultural greenhouse on the roof. Under the new configuration, the building—originally constructed in the 1970s—is expected to gain nearly 12 meters in height.

This colossal project will encompass the entire Maine-Montparnasse area, including the neighboring shopping center and the CIT Tower (International Textile Center). A call for tenders was won by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, with works expected to begin in 2028. After several limited demolitions, the central plaza will be landscaped, and new office buildings, retail spaces, student housing, a cultural facility, and leisure amenities will enhance the entire district.
