Granitrans introduces a new stone-cutting technology, offering ultra-thin 8 mm stone slabs.

Precision Innovation

For over 30 years, Granitrans, a family-owned company based in Negrais, Portugal, has been dedicated to innovation in the stone industry. Their latest technological breakthrough, developed in collaboration with a strategic partner, pushes the boundaries of what was previously possible in natural stone cutting. This new machine is the first of its kind worldwide, enabling the slicing of entire stone slabs to an unprecedented thinness of just 8 mm.

By adapting the traditional multi-wire saw technology, Granitrans and its partner have successfully engineered a process that allows for the simultaneous cutting of full stone slabs without damage. This advancement unlocks new possibilities for architecture and construction.

Lighter slabs reduce structural weight while maintaining the durability and aesthetic appeal of natural stone.

A Wide Range of Applications

To bring this technology to the market on a large scale, Granitrans has established an entirely new production line. The applications of these ultra-thin stone slabs are diverse, spanning from façades to interior and exterior cladding, as well as furniture design. This innovation opens new creative avenues for architects, designers, and contractors and is also particularly well-suited for home and building renovations.

With dimensions identical to those of traditional 2 cm or 3 cm thick stone slabs, this technique can be applied to a variety of materials, including granite, marble, and even quartzite.

A Lighter Alternative

The reduced weight of these natural stone slabs, compared to traditional thicknesses, presents significant advantages for building construction and structural efficiency. This not only enhances resource efficiency but also expands the range of potential applications.

Thanks to this new production process, Granitrans achieves properties comparable to sintered stone while offering even thinner slabs, making them ideal for similar applications such as furniture manufacturing—now with the added benefit of reduced weight. Additionally, each slab can be reinforced with mesh or even Omnicom, depending on the specific requirements of the project.
