Bespoke design service from modulyss charms designer Sylvain Willenz

Data di pubblicazione: 04.09.2024

In a previous newsletter, we introduced you to how modulyss is pushing the boundaries of modular design thanks to a bespoke design service for personalised flooring. This time, we look at how, thanks to a recent collaboration with Brussels designer Sylvain Willenz, the company is adding a timeless yet captivating carpet design to this new carpet design service.

Modulyss' carpet tiles lend themselves to unexpected applications and bespoke designs thanks to their ever-increasing colour, texture and backing options. As a result, they fit the purpose of any space and the brand offers designers such as furniture and lighting designer Willenz the flexibility they need to bring their bold visions to life.

Sylvain Willenz developed a design that is both complex and organic.

Use of advanced technology

‘I was particularly stimulated by the possibilities of the chromojet used by modulyss. Its advanced technology provided the perfect opportunity to explore something innovative and is in line with both my interest in textiles and the 2D and 3D dimensions my work encompasses,’ Sylvain Willenz comments. ‘After visiting the modulyss site to better understand the production process and see the chromojet at work, I became very inspired by the versatility of the chromojet process and its endless possibilities. That's how I knew we could really challenge this technique by creating a design that is both complex and organic.’

Structure of wood in textiles

For his design, the designer was inspired by patterns found in nature, in particular the structure of wood: ‘I was inspired, among other things, by the infinity of the jungle which, when photographed from above, consists of a repetition of lines. In terms of colours, my choice went to organic and toned-down tones, adding some degradations and fades to create this natural and organic atmosphere. In turn, the contrast of lighter and darker areas emphasises the smooth and organic transitions that can also be recognised in nature. The rich and vibrant yet subtle pattern makes this design a passe-partout that adds an element of sophistication and biophilia to any environment.’

For the design, the designer drew inspiration from patterns found in nature, especially the structure of wood.

Design on show during ARCHITECT@WORK Rotterdam

Sylvain Willenz's design was first shown at the end of April during ARCHITECT@WORK Luxembourg and at the end of May during ARCHITECT@WORK Brussels. Now it will be presented to the professional public during ARCHITECT@WORK Rotterdam (11-12 September).

‘Willenz's work is another illustration of how we at modulyss manage to render visuals perfectly,’ concludes product director Ruben De Reu. ‘Our custom design service responds to the increasing market demand for customised soft floor coverings and demonstrates how designers like Sylvain Willenz are presented with exciting new opportunities to respond to their customers' needs.’
