PADDLE: design Barber and Osgerby in 2022. The original prototype was developed from the observation that door handles are more often pushed downwards with the palm of the hand than they are gripped. Based on this insight, a form has evolved in which the top area of contact is increased. CONO: design Gio Ponti in 1956. In the mid-1950s, the fruitful working relationship between Ernesto Olivari and Gio Ponti led to the creation of three models of door handles, the Lama, the Cono and the Anello. Ponti’s most famous building, the Pirelli skyscraper (1952-1961). The Cono handle was used for his spectacular Villa Planchart (1953-1957) in Caracas, Venezuela. MELANZANA: design Luigi Caccia Dominioni in 1962. Between 1959 and 1962 Luigi Caccia Dominioni designed three historic models with the same design matrix and the same characteristic handle, but with different functions, determined by the position of the pillar: a knob, with a central pillar, and two handles , one with a straight pillar, placed in an offset position, the other with an angled pillar inclined out of axis to facilitate the lever. LOGO L: design James Irvine in 2006. How to design a handle for a firm of such stature? I started making sketches, but kept them to myself. In the beginning, they were strange ideas, and looking at them, I wondered if I really wanted to produce a handle like that. To tell the truth, no. Maybe the handle does not always have to play the leading role. Maybe it can be understated. ALBA: design Kai Linke in 2023. The precise and minimalistic design of ALBA is inspired by historical porcelain door handles. The round section is the unifying motif of the handle, with the slightly oversized porcelain lever as an aesthetical sign in favour of ergonomics. THE LOW HORIZONTAL PLATE was designed as an alternative to the rosette, to perform a dual function.
