European competition awards projects in Belgium and Ljubljana, announced in Oulu.
The 19th edition of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - EUmies Awards announced its winners on 16 April in Oulu, one of the European Capitals of Culture for 2026. This edition brought together 410 works from 40 countries, referring to projects completed between May 2023 and April 2025, highlighting the diversity of recent European architecture and a growing focus on sustainable solutions and the efficient use of resources.
The Architecture Prize was awarded to the Palais des Expositions in Charleroi, Belgium, designed by the studios AgwA and Architecten Jan de Vylder Inge Vinck. The project rehabilitates an existing complex, strengthening its accessibility and public role. The Emerging Architecture Prize distinguished the Temporary Spaces for Drama at the Slovenian National Theatre in Ljubljana, by Vidic Grohar Arhitekti - a proposal designed to meet the institution’s temporary needs through simple and adaptable solutions. Taken together, the two projects demonstrate how the adaptation of existing structures can effectively respond to contemporary functional and social requirements.
