A capsule for hospitality in the office

Publication date: 12.03.2026

The office capsules that Jacques Tati imagined in the film Playtime (1967) described, with almost prophetic irony, the condition of the modern worker: exposed, observed, rhythmed by a collective machinery that blurred the boundaries between intimacy and production. Half a century later, open-plan offices have transformed this scenario, bringing collaboration and fluidity, but inheriting something from that vision: the difficulty of finding places where one's attention can rest. It is in this paradigm shift — between the accelerated choreography of the contemporary office and the growing need for micro-refuges — that Divilux's E.Box gains particular relevance. It is in this paradigm shift — between the accelerated choreography of the contemporary office and the growing need for micro-refuges — that Divilux's E.Box gains particular relevance. Not as a futuristic capsule, but as a piece of micro-architecture that rebalances everyday work through acoustic comfort, transparency, and constructive precision.

Divilux's E.Box, as a piece of micro-architecture, rebalances everyday working life through acoustic comfort, transparency and constructive precision.

Unlike Tati's fiction, in which compartmentalisation symbolised alienation, E.Box proposes a silent hospitality: a space capable of welcoming without isolating, of protecting without cutting off continuity. The glazed surfaces allow light to pass through and maintain visual connections, avoiding the sensation of rupture, while the absorbent panels and extruded aluminium structure create a contained interior, where voices become clearer and concentration becomes possible.

Avoiding decorative objects, E.Box integrates into the environment and operates as a subtle infrastructure, able to restore dynamics in an office that requires both focus and collaboration. The technical rigour of E.Box thus also becomes architectural language. Precise joints, measured proportions, and calibrated materials make up a design that brings it closer to the logic of architectural design—attention to detail, coherence between elements—rather than the traditional logic of furniture. The booth is not an addendum to the space, but an integral part of its identity.

The experience of entering E.Box encapsulates this idea: a brief moment of transition where outside noise becomes habitable silence, where the pace of the open space slows down and the rhythm of the open space slows down.

The experience of entering the E.Box encapsulates this idea: a brief moment of transition where the outside noise is converted into habitable silence, where the rhythm of the open space slows down and the perception of the body in space is reorganised. It is not just a question of functionality, but rather a form of architectural hospitality, one that offers refuge without denying belonging. At a time when offices have become hybrid territories — part machine, part community — these micro-rooms recover a sensory dimension that is often lost between flows, deadlines and meetings.

With its subtle and flexible design, the E.Box cabin from Divilux not only  integrates easily into different types of office space, but also encourages the creation of new organisational layouts.

For architects and designers, E.Box is a strategic tool: it organises routes, clarifies zones, introduces moments of pause and allows for new work choreographies.

Its discreet presence, combined with its ability to integrate into multiple formal languages, makes it a design element rather than a technical accessory. Its discreet presence, combined with its ability to integrate into multiple formal languages,  transforms it into a design element, not a technical accessory. Thus, E.Box asserts itself as a contemporary response to the old question that Playtime dramatised: how to build spaces that, even if industrial or shared, continue to offer places of attention, comfort and humanity.

Combining technical and formal features, the E.Box acoustic booth simultaneously meets operational needs and enhances the quality of the workspace.
