Designing light: the balance between beauty, function and technology in the Code concept

21-9-2021_16_37_49_black-light-allegra-martin-l5a6651

Tom Dixon, Powered by Prolicht

Abstract: The design of a light fitting has endured a constant and radical evolution. In the past it was a matter of pure shape design, with the functionality completely handed over to a third part light bulb. Today, the challenge has moved forward, starting with the choice of new materials, from high tech polymers to handcrafted metal foils, to the definition of the light source parameters, that in the latest concepts has become the essence and the protagonist of a light fittings collection. The Code, designed for the Austria architectural lighting company Prolicht, represents the ideal equilibrium among these multiple and multidirectional tensions.
