In the spirit of a ‘laboratory,’ Lab-École is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to bring together multidisciplinary expertise to design the schools of tomorrow. This incubator for educational innovations aims to explore, design, test and change paradigms in order to create a new architectural vocabulary for Quebec's educational world. The goal is to rethink school architecture as an environment that is as attractive as it is comfortable, adaptable and evolving, enabling current and future generations to develop their full potential.

About Pierre Thibault

Over the past decades, Pierre Thibault has helped make architecture a subject of public interest in Quebec and beyond, participating in numerous documentaries, publications, think tanks, and films. He co-authored the books 'Et si la beauté rendait heureux' with François Cardinal and 'Habiter en beauté' with Catherine Perrin, both published by Éditions La Presse, and appears in several documentaries available on the Fabrique Culturelle website (Télé-Québec). Projects by Atelier Pierre Thibault also inspired filmmaker Denys Arcand, who featured some of them in his feature film 'Le règne de la beauté'. The work of Pierre Thibault and his studio has been showcased in a number of exhibitions, notably at the Galerie d’Architecture de Paris (Territoires et paysages, 2023) and at the Grantham Foundation (Habiter le lieu, 2023).

A founding member and board member of the Lab-École, an initiative aimed at redefining school architecture in Quebec to foster learning and educational success, Pierre Thibault has been volunteering with this non-profit organization since 2017 to bring together multidisciplinary expertise to design the school environments of tomorrow. He is a professor at Université Laval's School of Architecture, and has served as a visiting professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), the School of Architecture in Nancy (France), and the École des hautes études appliquées in Geneva (Switzerland). Pierre Thibault is the recipient of the Ernest-Cormier Award (2023) and the Canada Council for the Arts’ Prix de Rome (1997).

About Atelier Pierre Thibault

Founded in 1988 by architect Pierre Thibault, Atelier Pierre Thibault harnesses the unique transformative power of the seasons to create spaces that capture singular moments: the crisp winter light on snow, the exuberant colors of the Indian summer, the gentle warmth of summer, or the explosive bloom of spring vegetation. With a distinctive body of work ranging from ephemeral installations to large-scale commissions such as the Collège Ste-Anne in Dorval and a museum for the Giverny Foundation, as well as single-family, collective, and multigenerational housing projects, Atelier Pierre Thibault has completed over 400 projects in Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick. Each project offers an opportunity to create a meaningful dialogue between landscapes and their inhabitants.

Based in Quebec City, with a consultation space in Montreal, Atelier Pierre Thibault brings together a team of about ten architects. The quality of its work has been recognized on numerous occasions, both in Quebec and internationally. Recipient of numerous Awards of Excellence in Architecture from the Ordre des architectes du Québec (1992-2024) and the Governor General's Medal (1997), Atelier Pierre Thibault’s work has also been the subject of a special issue of Architecture d'Aujourd'hui magazine (2024) and will be presented at the Biennale Architettura 2025.
