DesertBoard is the manufacturer of the region’s most sustainable building material – Palm Strand Board (PSB®). Founded in 2011, DesertBoard is the world’s first industrial-scale facility to manufacture engineered wooden boards using palm frond raw material – an abundant agricultural byproduct. DesertBoard achieved a major milestone in 2021 by successfully producing its first engineered wooden board, PSB®, which contains zero formaldehyde, offers high moisture resistance, is fire-rated for up to 90 minutes, and delivers exceptional durability and versatility, making it an eco-conscious choice for modern construction and interior applications. PSB® is manufactured through a patented process that transforms approximately 165,000 tons of UAE-sourced palm frond raw material into high-performance, sustainable building boards. With an annual production capacity of 110,000 m³ and a daily output of 6,200 boards – equivalent to 16 20-ft containers – the factory is engineered for both efficiency and environmental impact. Each cubic meter of PSB® board sequesters 406 kg of CO₂e, contributing to the facility’s overall carbon sequestration of over 45,000 tons of CO₂e annually. Moreover, DesertBoard proudly supports the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Vision and Abu Dhabi’s Industrial Diversification Strategy by reducing reliance on imported raw materials.
