The urban regeneration, promoted by the Curia of Caserta, of the area of the former Macrico (Central Armored Vehicle Spare Parts Warehouse) located 1.2 km from the Royal Palace of Caserta - a space now called Campo Laudato si' - is the result of the collaboration between public, economic, social, scientific and civic actors and the “Casa Fratelli Tutti” Foundation.
The project, which aims to transform the degraded area of 324. 533 sq. m. into an urban ecosystem for integral ecology, a social and cultural hub, consists of five parks connected by greenery and a transportation network; the Biodiversity Park designed for native species and educational trails; the Arts Park with Greenhouses, which will host master classes and cultural courses, and Hubs dedicated to artistic production; the Peace Park designed for hospitality and solidarity in which the Laudato si' Chapel is inserted; The Care Park to care for the soul and body; and the Francis Economy Park designated for research and innovation where the Hangar, a large covered space, is able to host events and demonstrations.
By drastically reducing the existing cubage, increasing the permeable surface area to 252,000 square meters of greenery, 786 m of water paths, 511 trees, 13,375 square meters of photovoltaics and 10 plazas, the project outlines an interfaith, inclusive, intercultural and intergenerational place of technological innovation geared toward sustainable development and social justice and climate.
